I know this is a slightly US centric website, but I've been desperately trying to get my hands on one of these (ideally 20") and since there rarer than hens teeth I thought it would be cool if people could report sightings of them in the wild in this thread.

Please don't accuse me of being London-centric! But demo ones have been spotted in Micro-Anvika, Square Group (both sizes on display) and John Lewis, Oxford Street. As to the back-order situation...who knows.... mine has its flight booked from Shanghai today!

There are plenty of UK users on this site!!

Seems a but mixed with John Lewis at the moment.

There are several stores near me - Peterborough have them in stock apparently, and demo units, but Milton Keynes told me on Saturday that they might not be getting them till the end of this month! Don't have any demo units either.

Personally I would probably go to John Lewis's next time for a new computer, mainly because of the two year free warranty (OK so you don't get the BTO options...).

I started this thread to find out about shop stock, i.e. immediately available supply of iMac G5's, I don't trust Apples delivery estimates any more, I've been burned too many times, and ordering through a dealer is even worse.
Yeah, John Lewis is a good bet with the free 2 year guarantee.

Was in the JL today, and the sales guy was telling another customer that Apple had recalled all the G5 iMacs in the UK because of problems with the power supplies, and the fact they were overheating.

Was the first i've heard of it!?

Also, he said Apple launched the Powerbook G5 internally just before they launched the iPod Mini, and were going to launch it to everyone when they announced the iPod mini, but didn't because of problems with the liquid cooling..... ???

Ditto, that is alot of hogwash.

There are plenty of UK people on here!

iMac G5 supplies may be tighter than you'd think since they seem to be in high demand.

"Apple's Consumer Macs a Hot Ticket

Demand for Apple Computer's new all-in-one iMac G5 has risen sharply over the last 3 weeks, according to information gathered from internal company data. The surge in demand is currently far exceeding available supply of the computers, and shows few signs of slowing, leading insiders to believe the iMac is poised to become a hot seller this holiday season."

Keep an eye on Jigsaws website, I ordered a stock model from the Apple Store and was given shipping of 10th Nov, but I checked Jigsaw one day just to see and found they had the same model in stock.

Ordered it and got it the next day, and cancelled with Apple.

Update:
They have the 17" 1.8Ghz model currently in stock again but like it did when I got mine, it soon went out of stock once people realised and ordered.

I dont know what to do about ordering mine.. I want to wait until I go to the apple store regent street opening, but really want the blutooth module mouse and keyboard. Do you recon they will have wireless keyboard units in stock?

Alternatively, I can order off the apple site to work and try and claim the VAT back!

I'm sure they'll have the Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse, you might actually find it harder to buy an iMac on the day.

Can I just chime in that while for most things John Lewis is an excellent store, the extra year of warranty is not what it seems to be. While they will get it fixed, all they promise is to send it off to their contractor, and have it returned withing FOUR weeks! This is far more time and hassle than the normal Apple waranty and Applecare would take. I found this out at my disadvantage recently, but luckily persuaded Apple that the part in question had never worked since it had been replaced within the original year, and they did the right thing and helped me out. As a student, if I had known what I do now, I would have bought from Apple or Cancom with an educational discount and Applecare.

You'll be lucky if Apple ever repairs your Mac in that time period too (at least in my experience here in the UK).
