ugh
I've noticed a lot of cube users post here so I thought I'd see how others are doing. I updated my g4 cube 450mhz (640mb ram, still showing, ati rage pro, 80gig seagate barracuda IV hdd) the other night, and I'm having nothing but trouble. I've gotten at least 3-4 kernel panics (before this update i think i might have had one the entire 3 years I've owned the thing), a black screen that looked to be my energy saver cutting power to my lcd as the power light was still on, but no clicking or keyboard pressing would get it to come back on. Are there others out there with these problems? I don't seem to have an issue with my ipod mounting or my owc firewire hdd enclosure either as others have reported though. Is there a fix anybody is aware of? I was toying with the idea of re-installing, but damn, I wanted to do it when I wanted to do it, not when my cube dictates!
I'm trying to test a hypothesis of mine that involves using azureus though. that seems to have been always running when it panics. that and konfabulator. console shows nothing spectacularly wrong from what my untrained eye can tell, but I'll be looking. my wife was also using internet explorer <gasp> two of the times it kp'd. after the first kp i ran the system through cocktail but still had a kp after that even. I've since reset the PRAM (that's cmd+option+P+R right?) as well but it has still gone the KP route. this blows. i hope my mother's emac is ok, i just updated that last night.
install seemed to go fine on my ti400 although I haven't used it extensively enough to say for sure.

not sure what your issue is, but i still have a cube in use (450mhz, rage pro, 576mb ram, 120gb hd), and have successfully upgraded to 10.3.6.
my upgrade process: i first ran onyx (all maintenance functions), restarted, then ran the 10.3.6 combo update (downloaded, not software update). no problems yet.

i've been hearing the combo update thing a lot lately too. this might be the issue since i upgraded the cube using software update, but my mom's emac with the full combo update. she is saying her emac is fine, but obviously i'm not so lucky. does onyx do anything beyond what cocktail does? like i said i used cocktail afterwards, and tried doing the pram jig. what else is there?

technically, the software update and combo update should have the exact same effect, but psychologically i like using the combo updates. i'm not familiar with cocktail, but i've been very happy with onyx (freeware) - it does about everything well.
onyx

you might try it. run everything under the maintenance tab then maybe clear some caches under the cleaning tab, then restart. (not sure if you can run the 10.3.6combo update after running the 10.3.6software update.)

I doubt this is an issue with 10.3.6 and cubes. I have two of them, one here at work and one at home that I use as my mp3 server. Both updated to 10.3.6 without any issues.

i never meant to imply that I thought it was specific to cubes, but rather thought i'd get some fellow cube user's opinions on fixes if they've had the same problems. i may have an isolated incident though.
