I've just cancelled my 20inch imac for 17inch imac cause I didn't want to wait for it plus when I checked out at Apple store, I didn't like the 20inch, 17inch were my style, Question, is this ok for photoshop work and does calibration hardware and software will work for this LCD?
Regards,
Charles,

It would appear from looking at the tech specs on Apples website that the IMac G5 (like the one I'm typing on now at my mom's) with the 17" screen ranks below the iMacG5 with the 20" screen in view angle performance (120 vs 170 degree). Both have a contrast ration of 350:1 vs the 400:1 on the professional line (20,23,30" aluminum), and also a lower 200 cd/m brightness on the 17", 230 cd/m on the 20" and 250 cd/m on the pro-level screens.
So basically, for Photoshop professional work, your 17" may not cut it. But for having fun, it should be plenty.

The 17" will work fine. They're not quite as bright as some more expensive LCDs, but they will respond well to calibration. That step alone will put you ahead of about 90% of the computer users in the world. Pricey LCDs have a wider gamut in terms of both lightness and hue, but that doesn't mean more affordable ones aren't just as valid if they fit your price range. Read some of the posts regarding the new 'pink' 23" Cinema displays and just thank your stars that you didn't pay almost 2 grand for just a display. I have one of the new 23's on my desk at work and I am really unimpressed; it has the fuzzy 'screen door' effect and the strong pink cast, making it annoying for Photoshop unless calibrated with something at least as accurate as a GretagMacbeth EyeOne.
