I'd go with the single 1.25, but I don't think you'll be finding one of those for under $800.00, yet.

2 reasons: the 1.25 should have a 133 mz ATA bus, which means bigger hard drive capacities. The dual 867 will be limited to 137 GB.

Also, the dual 867 has only 3 RAM slots, and I'm pretty sure the MDD 1.25s have 4.

The Dual 867 is an MDD. Same drive capacity limitations. Same memory capacity.

I was thinking Quicksilver. I see that you are correct after checking apple-history.com

I would go with the Dual as OS X is written with two processors in mind, and if you are doing anything with Photoshop with can also see dual processors.

Go with the Dual!

What about a refurbed eMac? I saw one on Apple's refurb site: 1.25GHz eMac/Combo Drive = $650. Get that and max out the ram- I think it'd do well if you must stay under $800.

If you want to stay under $800 I'd recommend a used G4 tower rather than an eMac. The eMac will stay in its stock configuration forever, but the PowerMac can be upgraded as you save up your money. If you're into tinkering at all, the PowerMac is the way to go. I couldn't stand owning an eMac - they're so plain!

Def get a dual 867 over a single 1.25.

OS X does a good job with dual cpu, so, the computer will seem more responsive in almost all situations...
