I've been having a series of problems with my iMac rev. C (tray load, OS X 10.3.6, 600mHz Sonnet Harmoni Processor, 512 mb RAM, 30 gb Hard Drive). Lately it seems like I solve one problem on the machine only to inherit an entirely new one.
Recently I had to replace the FBT on the analog board. When I reassembled my iMac, everything was green. I took the machine apart and took extra care in reattaching the connection to the CRT. Green screen was gone and everything was great... Until last night...
Last night I had to leave my apartment for awhile, but I didn't shut the iMac off. The machine went into sleep mode while I was gone.
When I returned, the screen had white lines running across the top and bottom of the screen. The menu bar at the top of the screen was almost gone. Looking closer at the screen, I noticed that menu bar looked as if it had tucked it self past the top edge of the screen and then flipped itself over.
In other words: The lines were actually reflecting the menu bar UPSIDE DOWN. Imagine the screen as a flat sheet of paper and about and one inch of the top is folded towards you.
I played around with the display geometry, but that didn't fix the problem. I did notice that the higher up I moved the screen the more the menu bar would disappear. The lower I moved the image, the more it seemed to reappear.
The only problem is that in order to do that, I had to adjust the geometry of the diplay so that it had a more a rectangle or letterbox shape.
I left the machine off overnight and the problem remained. I ran Diskwarrior and the problem was still there. Zapping the PRAM didn't help either.
I'm stumped. Any suggestions?
