Hi guys,

Unfortunately my imac g4 lcd screen died the other day, after 2.5 years. I bought it with a 3 year education warranty, fortunately.

I took it into the apple service centre today, and am waiting to hear if the fault is covered by the warranty and if not, how much the damage is.

Has anyone been through this process before? Is there anywhere online I can read the details of my warranty so I can see the exclusions and fine print?

The tech advised me that if the warranty doesnt cover the screen a new one will cost me around the same as the price of a new emac through education. Scary hey.

What are peoples opinions of the emac? Is it likely that my warranty wont cover me? There was no incident, I just switched it off over night and the next morning it boots but the screen doesnt come on at all. I tried resetting the pram and using the consumer accessible switch but these did nothing....

hmm i found this

http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/hardware.html

I wonder if the education warranty is just an extension of that standard warranty? In that case I should be covered.

Yah... that sounds a little fishy...

If it's an Apple LCD... and it malfunctioned (without any external circumstances) then it should be covered. That's the whole reason for the warranty.

If they say it's not covered, you should ask "Why?" numerous times and look at your extended warranty fine print for anything pertaining to LCD screens.

I believe Chimpmaster is correct in stating that the extended warranty extends the standard warranty.

I spoke witht he apple service centre today and they advised that the problem is a faulty logic board, and this is covered under my warranty. So some good news!

Apparently they should have the replacement part soon so hopefully I will have my imac back within a couple of days.
