On my dual 1GHz Power Mac G4 some, but not all, CD's will not open. I can hear it "spinning" but the sound is different from those CD's that will open. These same CD's that will not open on the G4, will open on an old iMac so it isn't the CD's. It sounds like a hardware problem to me, but the wierd thing about this is that I didn't seem to have this problem prior to my upgrade to 10.3.6. The CD/DVD drive is the Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104.

I have the same problem on my dual 2GHz. Sometimes some DVD/CD's (so far only a few of my DVD-R and CDR) gets spit out immediately, but if I try a second or third time it works. I don’t know whether it is software or hardware related. I bought my G5 with 10.3.6 installed so I can’t compare.

I've also had this happen with my Dual 2ghz. One day I couldn't get any CDs to mount or burn. I couldn't even hear the drive spinning up. I'm not sure of the cause either. I've burned DVDs and CDs fine for the past few weeks now.
