I want add some memory to my G4 and was wondering if i could stick a PC133 256MB into it with no problems? Is there a big difference in the memory from PC to Mac and what problems might happen? Thanks

there shouldn't be a problem, i have a g4 with a 100mhz bus and i popped in two 256 normal pc-133 chips and it worked fine. memery should be standard across the board with g4's and pcs

FYI, Apple System Profiler may incorrectly report the speed (and latency) on some machines. I have this problem on a modified GigE model, where the PC133 RAM shows up as PC100. However, it reports correctly when booted into OS 9.

So that would be my biggest problem that the mac would read the speed wrong? In that case the mac would be unharmed by pc memory?

Im getting the impression you are confused by the wording PC in the RAM title. Even mac RAM is called PC133 or PC100, that does not by definition indicate windows ram or something.

The Mac will read the speed just fine, the problem lies only with a specific application (Apple System Profiler).

Located in /Applications/Utilities. It gives you information about your system's hardware and software. Pretty much what the name says.

Sounds like you have an older G4 with a 100MHz bus. It's running the memory underclocked.

Or, as someone said above, System Profiler could be reporting it wrong.
