This is the strangest problem. My work sent in our eMac to be serviced. When we got it back, the built-in monitor was set as the secondary screen and stuck at 640x480. The option to redetect displays is not there, because I assume that window is hidden on the desktop of the non-existant external display.

Is there a way to force it to redetect displays, or reset the display preferences, or something like that? We can't even update the darn thing because the License Agreement window for Update is too large for the screen, and we can't access the "OK" button.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
-Rob

Grabbed a mini VGA to standard VGA for the eMac and plugged in an external monitor. Still no option to redetect displays or otherwise change how it's mirrored and what not.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Have you tried zapping the PRAM? In case you're going, "um...", power on the eMac with the command-option-P-R keys held down. Hold them down until you've heard the startup chime 3 or 4 times, then release the keys and let it boot. With any luck, that'll reset its brain.
