Hi,

I'm not very good at hardware - I'm a software geek.

I've got a Yikes! machine and I've already got two drives in there:

The original (which I assume is: 10 GB 5400 rpm Ultra ATA/33)
And another 60Gig drive.

Can I add another? or is parallel ATA limited to two? This page suggests it is:

I had a Yikes machine and had 3 drives in it. You can add a PCI ATA controller card and run the extra drive(s) off of it or you can use the existing 3.5" bay below your optical drive. The power connections and IDE cable are there for adding a zip drive. What I would do is move the slower 10 GB drive to that bay and add a faster/bigger drive to the main ATA bus. If I remember I had to do a little trimming on the drive bay to make my hard drive fit but it was no big deal. I didn't have any problems whatsoever.

i use an old B&W w/G4 upgrade. i've got 4 drives in there, using a Sonnet Tempo ATA133. piece of cake to install, go for it.

Yes this can be done, but remember that the zip/cd interface is only ATA/16 (or 8 in rev 1 machines) and that, combined with an old, slow drive will make for d o g-s l o w data transfers. but it will work...... I would recommend adding the pci controller and hooking ALL Hd's to it, so they will all get the speed advantage (like I did on my B&W)

One word of caution though, in order for the controller card to recognize the HD's, they have to be reformatted after connecting them, so make back-ups first.......
