I am trying to repair the disc premissions in fsck command, but as I use it the fan and sounds gets like relly relly load , in fact I think it will blow uo so I had to cancel and reboot.

I am trying to get away from the blue screen of death , I do not have acess to the CDs, I am trying to run in terminal
/Volumes/Macintosh HD worker$ diskutil repairVolume / from a booted ibook but I keep getting Could not unmount disk for verification

This is from mocosxhints

There are many different ways to do this. You can boot off the OS X Installation CD, run Disk Utility, and select Repair Disk. If you don't have access to the CD, you can also run the UNIX command fsck from the Terminal in Single User Mode. The specific sequence of how to do this varies depending on what version of OS X you're running. Go to Apple Support for specific instuctions.

What machine are you trying this with? If it's a G5, that's perfectly normal. The fans are controlled by software. If you don't load the OS, the fans have no idea what temperature the case is and how much cooling is needed. So to avoid overheating, they just blow at full speed.

As Q said, it's normal. They won't explode. They're just running at full speed like Q said. It may put a little extra wear on them, but that's about it.
