Hi! first I want to apologize if this topic has already been discussed in the past but I tried searching on the forum, Google, AppleCare, etc but found nothing.
I had this problem since I bought this machine more than 1 year ago but i was told it was normal (!!). What happens is that when the computer goes to sleep, either manually or automatically, I lose my network connection!
The first week i got it, I asked the technician (I'm in Montréal, Canada, so no Genius Bar yet) and he told me it was a normal behavior.. At first I was puzzled because my previous Macs didn't do this (they were using os 9 so I thought that was a new OSX "feature"). One rep even accused my router to be faulty (which I ruled out by testing different configuration).
This is annoying as i always leave a few apps open to log my private messages when I'm away. I know sleep will cause other problems, like having to run manual cron job, but I really want to save energy and relieve my computer from continuous use.
I don't consider this to be a normal behavior of an Apple product, even less in a era in which M. Jobs himself implied that computers were now meant to be on all the time.
for the records, i'm using 10.2.8 with the latest updates

You didn't state as to whether you were using a wireless connection or not?

oops! my two computers are physically connected to a hub, which is connected to a WRT54G Linksys router. I tried different port configuration, and connecting the iMac directly doesn't solve the problem.
I even noticed that an IRC program, Snak, automatically close its connection if the computer is put to sleep. It looks like this application expects the network connection to be lost..
