Hi guys. This is a great forum, and my first posting.

My graphite iMac DV SE has just died. It does absolutely nothing when I hit the power-on button on the front (or from the keyboard). It was running fine until a week ago, when it cut out completely and wouldn't power back up. I let it sit for a day, then tried again, and it powered up and ran fine for a week. Then it conked out completely. There is no startup chime, nothing spinning, and no LED lights whatsoever on the power button. It's like it's not even plugged in.

I've tried resetting the CUDA button and replacing the PRAM battery, but no luck. Can anyone give me an idea of what to do next? I don't know how to reset the loguc board, or if that would even help.

Thanks.

Sorry, no suggestions for help, but I feel your pain. That was my first Mac purchased at Circuit City( don't know if they are sold there anymore), and I remember paying $50 for the "public beta" os OS X. Times sure have changed for the better :-)

Hmmm...before you decided your Mac is dead, get a technician to troubleshoot the start button (which is just a switch). Is there power at the button? Does the power goes across the button when it's pressed?

A technician can tell you what the problem is, but for the time being make sure the machine is plugged into a powered electrical outlet, and that the cord is working.

Fortunately, if your iMac does end up being kaput, you should be able to get the hard drive out of it and salvage all of your data. I've done a hard drive swap on DV series iMacs several times and its really not that hard.

Hope it all turns out well for you. A DV SE was my first Mac (that I owned) too. As far as I know, its still in use by a buddy of mine that I gave it to over 3 years ago.

Thanks for the suggestions. For the time being I may just take out the hard drive and try to get my data. Since it's an IDE drive, can I just stick it in a USB box and access the data from my PC? Or will the fact that the drive is formatted for Mac OS pose a problem in letting the PC read the drive without reformatting it?

Regarding the possibility that the power supply may be bad, I've noticed that when I plug in the power cord to the back of the iMac, I hear the power in the plug (that zap sound). So could the power supply still be faulty?

it could be just the part of the powersupply that connects to the logic board.

I would like to get a new power supply because I would hate to have to trash this iMac. Any idea of where I could pick one up, besides eBay?
