Hey guys when my eMac G4 1.25/40gig/768ram is out of warranty I plan on changing out the HD. What is the max storage my eMac can handle? What type of drives does the eMac use i.e. Western Digital or Maxtor?

Thanks!

eMac 1.25s can use the largest drives available (300- 400 gigs). Just make sure to get a regular ATA drive and not SATA . Brand is irrelevant ... any will work. I recommend Seagate -- not the fastest, but pretty fast, quiet, cool running, and reliable.

^^What Krusty said. I'd like to throw in a good note for Western Digital too. I've had good luck with WD and Seagate.

I've taken apart my old G3 iMac and it only had enough room for 1 hard drive. I've seen tear down pics of an eMac and from the pics, it's the same as the old iMac's.

That being said, you could naturally pick up a Firewire HD although it's not as clean as an internal drive...

You can get a great deal when you buy the FW enclosure and the HD separate.

However, upgrading the internal hard drive would be a very good thing since your eMac's 40 GB drive is only a 5400 RPM. Upgrade to a new 7200 RPM drive with an 8 MB cache and you'll see a noticeable, if not major, increase in overall speed.

The eMac doesn't have room for two internal hard drives. You may theoretically be able to fit a second one if you remove the optical drive, but you don't want to do that do you? You could always get a Firewire enclosure to put your older drive into once you make the switch.

Definitely no room in there for extra drives.
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.
