A customer of mine has a dual 2ghz G5 and after I have installed the nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL card and the 30" cinema screen, I can't get it to start from cd - it boots, shows the grey screen with the apple, and then the darker grey screen with the message "press and hold down the powerbutton to shut down" (or something like that, in several languages) appears and then I have to reboot to drive. The same happens when I have tried with their old "small" 23" screen.
Anyone experiencing the same?
Thanks,
Peter
p.s. yes, quite a setup - I wish it was my own!

Ah yes. This is an example of Apple's incredible foresight in providing the computer with a CD that doesn't have the GeForce 6800's drivers on it! You'll have to use a different video card or request a CD from Apple that will work.
I heard about this a couple weeks ago and it sounded like the dumbest thing ever. I mean, if they had enough samples of the 6800 back in summer when they first started advertising them, why the hell didn't they include the drivers in the startup CDs? It's just so incredibly stupid...

Hmm - why didn't I get that when I searched the forum?! (ahh - just found out - searched for geforce and 6800 ...)
Anyway, thanks for both the answers - I'll guess I'll just have to get hold of Apple or create one using BootCD.
Thanks,
Peter

Because the drivers weren't finished?

Wait... I can understand taking pre-orders for GeForce 6800s with the intent to finish the drivers later, but why would they ship out video cards without drivers?

The videocard I got has drivers (and G5 cooling firmware upgrade), so thats not the problem, but the ol' startup cd hasn't.

If Apple had been smart, they would have included a new startup CD with the delivery of the Geforce boards - unfortunately, it seems like they didn't do that. Stupid.
