my family is pretty open about christmas, and my parents still maintain that the kids should get the best stuff. combined that with our limited funds, and we've been contemplating doing this for Christmas, and I wanted to know if it was possible/reasonable.
I would get the 6800GT for my G5
my sister would take my 9600 for her dualie 1.25
my parents would get my sister's geforce 4 mx for their sawtooth 400.
or, MORE likely:
I'd buy a new card for my sister
she'd give the mx to my parents
I really doubt I'll be trying to save up to get the 6800, so if that stage (9600 into dual 1.25) isn't possible, that's fine.
So, I need to know two things:
1) could the card from the G5 go into my sister's G4?
2) what would be a decent upgrade for my sister. She's a light gamer (NWN, et cetera) so she doesn't need a whole lot...
In fact, my sister doesn't really need an upgrade... but my parents do (I used that computer for a long time, and it is SLOW since it has no support for QE). However, I'd feel silly upgrading their computer to the cheap card my sister currently has... especially since down the road it'd be nice to upgrade my sister's, since knowing her she'll have this computer for a LONG time (her previous computer was a performa 6116...). So the card I'm looking for for my sister won't have to be awesome (9800, et cetera)... just a good upgrade from the GeForce 4 MX that will help her not have a horrible time with that computer in 5 years. If my 9600 would be a viable card for her, I might just save up for another 6 months or so and upgrade the G5 and trickle everything down from there...
Thanks!

The 9600 will work, but requires modification. Do a search in the on the forums Im sure there is a thread on it. However, the ADC port will be dead, so if your sis has an ADC monitor that is no good. Im not sure about the 4MX.

I wasn't able to find anything on the boards, but I did find this with google:
http://www.techseekers.net/modules.p...tent&id=71
so it looks like I should be able to do this with my sister's computer. when they say they used tape, is that some specialty tape or just plain scotch tape? I'd rather not end up getting tape all through my sister's AGP slot...
anyway, if I just decide to get her a new card and avoid trying to move mine down, is the 9600 a good deal? I know I've been happy with mine most of the time, and I do a little more gaming than my sister... plus, that price looks very good.
Any other suggestions/commments?
Thanks!

The mod is so painfully easy that it seems like a waste to spend 100 on a card that you already have. All they are doing is doing the exact same mod that you would do yourself on the card.
