I'm looking to add another 1Gb to my DP2.5 G5. I see this attractive deal at Newegg for $129. Is there any reason to go for something more expensive like Crucial?

macs tend to require ram that is exactly on spec. crucial has quality ram. mushkin might not.

No, I have to disagree with you, macaddict. People routinely buy inferior generic RAM for their Macs without problem. Mushkin is name brand RAM. There is nothing inherently superior about Crucial in comparison to any other name brand supplier - the thing Crucial has going for it is popularity. Now the only question I have about Mushkin is, they have a separate Mac RAM section on their site under the label "Graphite." I don't know why they've made this distinction, but I assume it was made by their marketing department. I'm going to call Mushkin to find out why, and I'll edit my post when I find out more information. But otherwise, the Mushkin RAM listed by newegg looks to be in spec for the G5, and it's sold in pairs, which seems to indicate G5 suitability.

Edit: I could not get a hold of anyone at Mushkin over the phone. so hopefully they'll respond to my email in a timely fashion.

Well, I never received a response to my message to Mushkin, so I went ahead and bought the RAM. It was too good to pass up.

Look at the reply I got from Mushkin sales yesterday:

"Similarly timed modules work sometimes, but not always._ It's always a gamble to buy the non-graphite memory for macs._ It's up to you; some customers have been successful."

Well, we'll know what happens when I install the RAM (which I got a few days ago). I really don't see why ostensibly up to spec modules wouldn't work. Few other memory vendors sell Mac specific RAM. I have to imagine that while Mushkin would rather sell premium priced "Mac" RAM, there cannot be that much of a difference. Besides, there are few places selling these graphite parts - most stores say they're out of stock.
