I have a PM 5400/180 and a PM 5400/200 that I would like to upgrade and have a chance to pick up a 5500/250 cpu with all the bells and whistles such as A/V in, etc. Can I just slide it into one of the 5400s and have it work even though the 5400 says it is 40MHz bus vice 50MHz for the 5500?

Have a look around this site, or try emailing them. the 6400 Zone was a daily read for me back when I had a 6400/200 Performa. If anyone has the knowledge on this, someone there will.

If you replace the motherboard: yes. That's what you do when you slide out the big drawer-like circuitboard.

Dude, God bless you man... don't take this the wrong way, but pick up a used G4 500mhz for $300 and experience a major leap forward in computing technology... namely OS X.

How much are you paying? Because it better not be more than about $20. If so then you'd be better off buying a beige G3 or something. You can get 'em for $40 or so nowadays.
