Hey folks - Happy New Year...

I'm posting to request a favor from those of you with B&W G3s...

My PRAM battery (top left corner of the motherboard) recently died and I pulled it out to see if I could find a replacement, but subsequent my stupidity and forgetfulness combined caused me to lose it. Now I have a Mac who believes it's 1973 and refuses to remember any settings (although this was to be expected).

Can anybody tell me what manufacturer and model name the battery in their B&W G3 is so I can purchase a replacement? Obviously, if you can suggest a place that would be even better - I tried the rat shack and they said no go.

It is a standard 3.5v lithium battery, like those used in older 35mm cameras, among other things.....check the camera dept at Wal-fart, BustBuy or any other electronics chain. Dont bother trying to explain to anyone what it's for......they wouldn't understand anyway

No, it's not the same as a photo battery!

It's a 3.6V 1/2AA lithium battery. Not too hard to find at computer stores and electronics shops.

Even Radio Shack carries them; I've bought them there before (though they are wildly overpriced there).

I did look at the rat shack in the photo battery section and found nothing resembling it 3.x volt arena. You're sure i's a 1/2AA and not a 1/2AAA?

Thanks...will check it out.

I'm quite sure. It is a 1/2AA 3.6V lithium computer backup battery.

It won't be in the photo battery section, because it's not a photo battery. Ask for it.

Or just order it from Other World Computing. http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_It...Item=OWCMAC36V

OWC's price for it is also really good: $6. Many places charge $8-10 for it.

It's a 1/2 AA, alright. My B&W started forgetting the date and time last week as I was gathering up the parts for my current machine...The Apple retailer (not an Apple store; a local place) was going to charge me $20 for the damn thing...found it online for about $5 shipped.

I was at Radio Shack today picking up a watch battery, and in fact they had the PRAM battery there. This Radio Shack did have it near the photo batteries. It's wildly overpriced though (over $14), but it's nicely labeled as "Apple Macintosh backup battery" or something to that effect.

It was an ebay auction, sorry. I don't think it's going anymore.
