This is one of the first eMac's (700 Mhz) with OS 10.3.7 .

Last week it crashed hard, I couldn't even start it up anymore (I always got the grey screen with the 'you have to restart your computer ' message).
I tried Techtool deluxe etc which didn't work (it failed everytime when trying to fix the harddrive).

After using Diskwarrior, I could start it again (the report showed there were many errors!).
Now it's working again, although I hear a 'click' noice every x minutes, at every click my computer freezes for like 2 seconds, and then it works again.
Is that clicking the hard drive? can it be fixed if I initialize the disk (reformat completely?)?

Funny hard drive noises that are associated with slow-downs or errors usually mean that there is a mechanical error in the hard drive, which cannot be fixed by a reformating. It is likely only a matter of time before the drive fails completely. You should back up as much of your important data as possible and replace the drive.

Aw, that's not positive .
Although my new G5 should arrive any day now, I was planning to sell this one for about 400 Euros, but I naturally won't sell it if it's on the edge of its life .
I'll have to see how much it costs to repair.

Thx.

Replacing the hard drive in an eMac is cheap.
