I remeber when i could get 128mb for 26.00$ geez!

I know just what you mean about the price of RAM. Back in September 2001, I got a stick of 512 for my Lime iMac DV 400 for $52 from crucial.com. Over thhree years later, the same thing now costs over a $100.

RAM is a commodity component, subject to laws of supply and demand. It was super-cheap for a while because there was excessive supply. Now it's more or less at balance.

well, i got the imac yesterday and it is a indigo imac dv 450mhz. and according the the hardware tests, there is no internal modem detected! (of course i am running OS9.2) and i get a error code of "-3170" whenever i try to connect to the internet. any ideas??
I hate to think the internal modem is fried. and in the internet connection set up it says "no serial ports available" whatever that means. the OS9.2 is a clean install done by avanti925 on this board. He seems to think it may be a firmware problem. I remember a few years back when there was a firmware update that was killing imac modems, but i cant remember anything other than that.
UPDATE: I updated the firmware to the latest on apples website, and through a google search have found out the error code "3170" is and open transport error and according the the files it reads "KotBadNameErr" "the endpoint name is invalid"
which i still dont know how to fix. any experts out there want to try?
and the system profiler still doesnt see any modem

The modem may be fried, or it may have come disconnected inside.
