For quite a while now, I've been experiencing frequent system freeze-ups. I'll be doing something as simple as typing, and the whole thing will just come to a stop. It most commonly happens when I'm running another program simultaneously ("The Sims" in particular), but also happens when I'm not running anything else at all. I just see no reason why an iMac G4 with 640 MB of RAM should be freezing up this sporadically. I pride myself on being a very patient person, but enough is enough.

Does anybody have even the slightest speculation as to what could be going on?

Also note: It seems to only occur when the internet is connected (56K)
