Looks like someone else came up with this a long time ago. And yes, this one comes with a keyboard!

That's not a keyboard, that's a number pad. That's probably what killed it.

Has nothing to do with living room PC's ... It's to gain market share from the lowest end of the market.

...except that with no tuner, no remote, no PVR software, and no 5.1 sound the Mac Mini isn't even remotely a candidate for a HTPC.

This is also a High End users friend... Have their Dual 2.5 GHz PowerMac with a 30" screen in the office and this beast attached to their TV or stereo...

Third-party solutions will give you everything but PVR--which is not a requirement for an HTPC. But I must admit that Apple really should have given us an SPDIF. With that it would have made a decent HTPC right out of the box.
The problem with most HTPCs is that they're LOUD. You have to pay big bucks to get a quiet chassi. In this regard the Mini might excel.

What third party software gives you the "Media server" UI on the Mac mini which consolidates all your images, movies and music. And I'm not talking about the iLIfe apps but something that is optimzed for TV, like the Elgato eyeHome product.
