Hi there,

I was wondering if I can use my 256Mb PC100 SO-DIMM memory stick in a 233mhz iMac (rev A)... will it recognize the stick, or is the rev A iMac limited to 2 128Mb sticks? Thanks for your help.

It might. The 233s can recognize up to 512MB of PC100 memory as long as it is low-density. Try it.

If memory serves, the lower slot can only take the 1" SO-DIMM rather than the 1.5" size. Years ago there were "mileage may vary" reports that some RevA's only supported up to 256MB whereas the RevB definitely worked up to 512MB. I'm assuming at this stage that your old reliable has had all the relevant firmware updates over the years also.

I still have rev.a 233mhz iMacs running with 512mb ram.

The secret is to buy ram intended for the IBM Thinkpad T21 (2647 series).

Search on that at crucial.com, and you'll be able to buy it in the form of 2 256mb modules.

Works great.
