Have you seen this on the iLife '05 webpages (iDVD Features page):-

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which Systems Can Burn to DVD±R/RW?

Many Macintosh systems can burn DVDs using DVD±R/RW media. That includes all currently-shipping Macs with a built-in SuperDrive. In fact, if you have a 17-inch or 20-inch iMac G5 with a built-in SuperDrive, updating to iLife ‘05 will give you the ability to use DVD±RW media, as well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Great News, we now get DVD+R and DVD+RW support a with the iMac G5 as well as the existing DVD-R and DVD-RW support.

Yep yep, that's great news. And my 20" iMac shipped today, woohoo!

I'll get the $20 up-to-date iLife 05 so I'll be good to go

It is well known that many of Apple's superdrives are actually DVD-RW drives and now some are DVD+R/RW. It would appear that Apple has accepted that the +R/RW are being used by many, have no advantages or disadvantages over -R/RW and should be "unlocked" so Mac users can maximize their experience.

I'm assuming the next Panther update will also unlock this feature in non-iLife '05 updated machine. That, or Tiger will.

That's awesome. I had no idea I could use DVD+R/DVD+RW discs in my new iMac 20". Do you have to use iDVD to be able to be able to do this or will other software work (yes I do have iLife '05 but I like options!)?

Toast will work just fine with it. I've had a PM G5 1.6 since late 2003 and have been using Toast to burn +R/RW. Long before iLife supported +
