My friend is considering buying one or the other for a graphics department on a magazine he's staring up. He is not an artist, but wants to have it for freelancers he plans to hire...

He intends to get a new, wide monitor, but based on these two descriptions, what's the gut response here? The info below is all he knows...

(I am not completely ignorant, but I'm not a Mac Whiz either...)

_______________

=================================================
APPLE PowerMac DUAL G4 533 with 15" LCD Studio Display
=================================================

$800
... system new about 4 years ago.
... has a G4 533 MHZ DUAL Processor CPU.
The monitor is an Apple 15" Flat Panel TFT Studio Display.
comes with an Apple keyboard and Apple Pro Mouse.

Both computer and monitor have always worked perfectly. The G4 has two hard drives; a 40 GB and a 30GB. It has 768 megs of RAM.

CPU has 2 firewire and 2 USB ports. Additional USB ports are on the monitor and keyboard. The graphics card is an nVidia GeForce MX 32 MB card. There are other slots for additional expansion cards.

...has a DVD writer that I installed about three years ago -- the same drive that Apple used in their Super drive units but it didn't come with the system. The computer shipped from Apple with a combo drive. The DVD writer does work perfectly, however.

monitor in excellent condition. Nothing is dead and it is typical crystal clear Apple quality. will reinstall OS 10.3 to clear all my stuff and provide you with the benefits of first start up passwords, etc. I will also include an OS 9.2 disk so you can use the Classic mode.

a complete system... has the capacity and RAM to edit movies using Apple's included iMovie software and burn DVDs using Apple's included iDVD software... have the original manual but can't locate the original disks. Therefore, I will include an OS 9.2 disk
and ship the computer with OS 10.3 installed.

-- or this --

Dual 1.8GHz PowerPC G5
900MHz frontside bus/processor
512K L2 cache/processor
512MB DDR400 SDRAM Expandable to 4GB SDRAM
80GB Serial ATA 8x SuperDrive
Three PCI Slots NVIDIA
GeForce FX 5200 Ultra

for around $1600....
