Best guess predictions please.

I upgrade my PM every two years or so, but was hoping the entry dual would be at least at 2Ghz by now. I can wait a couple more months but I've got a serious case of G5 envy that needs to be dealt with. They wouldn't be waiting for the X4 debut, would they? If so I may want to upgrade my monitor for a quick aluminum fix to hold me over. The new Cinema's work on the G4's don't they? This way I can give the old one to the mother-in-law with a mini and get some extra points from the Mrs to make up for drilling a hole in the kitchen counter to hide the beautiful monster

You can expect a revision anywhere from February to late June at the WWDC, but I would expect it earlier rather than later this year. If Apple waits for WWDC again that will mean the G5 has gone to an annual revision cycle, which is something no one wants to see. I am unfamiliar with your reference to an X4, however. And yes, the new Cinema Displays are compatible with older systems as long as the graphics card can handle it, except for the 30" model, which requires a G5 and the highest end Nvidia 6800 Ultra DDL.

Eureka! I thought the X4 had something to do with the X Prize. Well, to answer that question, Apple wouldn't delay the release of new hardware for an OS release unless the penalty for not ramping up on hardware production was minimal. For example, the Mac mini was supposed to ship with iLife 05, but since a number of the units had to be produced and boxed before iLife was completed, Mac mini buyers received a coupon or a separate shipment of the software instead.

Slight correction...

The 30" requires a G5 plus either the nVidia 6800 Ultra DDL or the nVidia 6800 GT DLL (which is $100 cheaper than the Ultra). These cards can each drive two 30" displays. The ATI Radeon X800 also supports the 30" display (but only one, not two).

My apologies - Cadaver's right; Apple has neglected to update its displays page to reflect the GT's release.

Do you really think it'll be WWDC until they refresh the line? The last couple of updates have pretty consistantly been 5-7 month intervals. Which means we are due!

I seem to recall a longer gap than 5-7 months between the dual 2.0 and the dual 2.5. Wasn't it closer to a year? I expect something good to be announced, if not shipped, by June at the latest. As long as it has PCI express, there will be one heading my way.

Yeah, the G5s were introduced WWDC 2003, and it wasn't until WWDC 2004 that we got the Rev Bs (1.8/2.0/2.5). So it is entirely possible that there won't be a bump until WWDC 2005, as I stated. I know you won't appreciate this, but I continue to hope the next revision will not have PCIe, out of jealousy for my DP 2.0.

Well, since I just bought a new machine, Apple should introduce the next G5 revision any time now.

I had a dual 2.0GHz G5 (Oct '03) which was actually owned by my employer, but I recently moved to a new job and had to give the G5 back. Since I was desktop-less, today I bought a dual 2.5GHz machine (and dropped in the HD/RAM/R9800ProSE I had upgraded the previous one with). Hurray, back up and running.

But - again, since I just bought a new machine today, Apple should release the next speed bump tomorrow.

Well, let say I didn't buy it, and even more, nobody would buy one. Even then, Apple would come with a speedier model with more expansion possiblities, etc.
