So I'm thinking of buying a PM G4 733 from another guy on campus. I'm buying it for a second machine, mainly for storage and such.
Having never own a desktop before, I was hoping you all could give me some advice on what to look out for when purchasing it. I plan on running the Apple hardware test and giving it a once over looking for any physical damage, but beyond that I'm not sure what I should look for.
Any ideas what I should look out for? Any advice?

Additionally, it'll come with an Apple 17in Studio LCD display, so any advice on what to look for with that would also be helpful.

Thanks.

Boot it into OS 9 and use Drive Setup Utility to run a surface scan (test disk). Any error is a bad hard drive. Note that hard drives are cheap. Check the firewire ports, ethernet, etc... If you are really particular, you can go ahead and check the PCI slots.

The main thing to keep in mind is that the Mac mini sells for $500. You are getting a machine that is only two thirds as fast and has significantly less of a video card.

If your main goal is storage, you can connect a big firewire drive to the Mac mini.
