I know that iMac G5 has the card for the power of Motion BUTTT doesit perform well since it is missing the better bus and stuff in the Powermac.

BUT I can savemoney if it runs decent on iMac G5 as a powermac set up will cost in the 3000 dollar range for the comp and monitor and stuff else. But the cost is over all power of course.

Anyone test out Motion on iMacG5 ? Apple has a demo at there site so it would be helpful if someone could, as there is no apple store near me And we have that d@m ibook program here ,, weird ...

Here are some comparative benchmarks from BareFeats. If you plan to use it often (and to make money), then going with a G5 with the 9600XT might be better long-term since you'll be able to work more quickly. The jump from the 9600 to the 9800 doesn't seem as drastic. Compared to PowerMacs with the same card, it looks like the iMac G5 is just as fast. It would appear Motion is more dependent upon the video card than raw CPU power.

Hopefully a more powerful GPU will find its way into the next version of the iMac G5.

They work just fine on a power mac.

I tried one at the apple store in London. It works with final cut express with import export but can work with final cut pro using save or save as.

Assuming you want to port your new titles back into final cut?

The real time is great, however that was a fully speced 2.5 G5 dual screen etc...

Not bad for the price I am saving up for the package I saw in the store including a new prosuma vid camera about £4000 the lot. I have a screen already but I may be tempted to get another one.

the closest I can get to your specfic question is that they did have two imac g5 in the movie section so I guess the performance is not that bad and one bloke in the store runs it of his powerbook and they are only g4 etc..

I can always pop down to the store again and give it a go for you!!

Oo if you could that would be sweet. Just do stuff like add layers and use the blend modes like multiply add diference and others. And lastly the displacement map, those are the big bottle necks for me on ibooks. Powerbooks run it decently and I can exist with decently as long as it is not a constant stall and or crash app.

Acordding to Apple CoreImage should scale to any modern CG card when released and I would think that apple either has Motion tuned and ready to explode in Tiger or that they will release a new update to remove it's internals of basic core image and utilize all of Tigers newer CoreImage, that and draw from it's effects library, since CoreImage has even more than Motion...

Hmm time shall tell , or an NDA person !

The following is from a guy at london apple store.

Sounds correct. Motion is running slower on Powerbooks and iBooks then a PowerMac and it might be better for all of us users when CoreImage/Tiger comes out.

If you want to run it in full speed, get a full spec PowerMac G5 with a 256 MB graphics card, then it should screm!

FROM QNC

will mess around with one at the movies section but not sure what I am doing as never used motion before hope this helps it kind of tells you what you already know better graphics card and memory and possibly tiger will increase performance.

Hi had a play with the tutorial module used a 1.8Ghz 17inch imacG5 768MB ddrSDRAM
Geforce FX 5200 with VRAM 64MB!!

Tried a few blurs etc easy stuff I guess but it was ok didn't seem slow

but I am not an expert so I do not know if more complex tasks would take longer drops just happen and no tying up

hope that helps

Generally the iMac G5 is designed for speed and not for graphical intensive work. This is why it ships with the nvida geforce fx 5200 ultra.
