hi,

just a word of warning to people looking at powermac's on ebay(UK)...

yes the prices do seem TEMPTING but if it looks too good to be true then it probably is a scam/fake etc

stay well AWAY!

i was dumbly thinking of going through the ebay route and decided to email a few buyers questions in regards to the powermacs they were selling. i got a few replies telling me to do the obvious of buy now via western union etc....i smelt BS so i kindly declined....

this evening i got a few emails from ebay telling me to not go into any transactions with these people etc....the usual keep safe things...

anyways....to sum this little rant all up.....spend your hard earned cash via normal conventional ways such as direct or resellers or even honest second hand places.

thanks,

To add to the above, Ebay has seen a lot of spoofing and phishing of accounts. If you do email a seller outside of ebay and you get a reply, look at the full headers of the message. You might find that the email response might look like it came from joesmith @usaisp.net but inreality comes from nobody@dialup.ro.

I had just such an offer (about 6 months ago) in which a person in Romania was spoofing an actual seller of used macs in the USA. Ebay got all over it in no time. The emails were cool until you traced the IP.

Be very careful. I bought a beautiful QS on ebay only after I called the person on the phone to verify that they were who they said they were.

Too late, I've already initiated a transaction. Sorry!
