I bought the mini pretty much to run/learn OS X server. Wanted something cheap that took up a lot less space than my G4 Sawtooth.

I actually installed OS X Server just by cloning it using CCC. It took all of like 15 mins to do.

I wanted to get a fresh install so I was trying to figure out how. If anyone is interested in doing a fresh OS X install on their mini this is how I did it.

Plug mini into another computer in target mode. insert OS X Server CD and install. It will probably tell you that you need to restart from the CD. Do so. Once it restarts and you begin the install process choose the mini as the disk you want to install it on. Install OS X Server 10.3. After it installs it will want you to restart. After restart it will ask you to install second disk if you chose to do so. INstall the components from the second CD. When the Configure wizard comes up reboot your computer again. After this second reboot it will return you back to your orginal desktop of the host computer. Install the 10.3.7 update onto the Mini. eject mini and start up like normal. It will boot up and bring up the configure wizard again. Proceed as normal.

You will now have a Freshly installed OS X Server config on your Mini.

I'm sure there are simpler ways to do this. This way worked for me and just wanted to share with others who were wondering how to do it since you can't boot from the orginal OS X 10.3 Server CD.

Yeah I just ran the update in target mode. I was surprised that it worked. The only thing I noticed was that once I had it installed and I removed my Mini from target mode my G4 that I installed it from decided to give me the blinking folder for a while before it loaded. You might want to run Diskwarrior or choose the start up partition as the start up disk. My G4 eventually booted up. My mini works great as a server.

Cool. Mine is working great. I had to take it down and bring it to work because everyone wanted to see the Mini even though they are all PC users, go figure. Anyway, It's back up again. So far I've learned quite a bit about OS X server. Had to buy a book on it but it's been a good learning experience and now I know how to get it installed on the mini as well.

If you have a config that you can't afford to lose just clone it. It works just fine after it is cloned to the mini. If you are starting fresh with OS X server on the mini I would install it like I did.

All I did to install server on my Mini was install the package on Disc 2 of the OS X Server disc set.

I was up and running in a few minutes.

You have to install it via target mode. It should work that way.

WOHOO 10.3.8 Server adds sound to my Mini. Before the 10.3.8 upgrade it wasn greyed out and you had to do some hacked install to get it working. I'm glad I waited.
