I'm one of those crazy Cube owners who absolutely loves my Cube! But I've been thinking about the possiblility of selling it and buying a Mac Mini. Does anybody know how much I could expect to get for just the Cube itself (no monitor, no keyboard)? Besides eBay, are there other places to list it for sale?

Is there a way to search PAST eBay auctions to get an idea of what just the Cubes have sold for? (Current auctions haven't been that helpful)

Thanks for any input that anybody might have.

I dont think looking at past prices will help, as the Mac Mini will have changed everything. People would pay a premium for the Cube due to its size, but now you can get a Mac Mini for £300, so the Cube just lost a lot of its value. May be some people out there who really want a Cube tho...
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

Cubes will always garner a decent price. Most people buying them are doing so for collectibility, not necessarily for functionality. Thus, the Mac mini will have little impact on the Cube's value. I've been on eBay quite a bit in the last month for other stuff and I check the Mac section often. Cube prices haven't budged, and for that matter, the Mac mini hasn't even affected used Power Mac prices yet.

As to places to sell them, the easiest, and probably safest is eBay. Lowendmac.com has a bunch of email lists, one of which is a swap list that has quite a bit of activity on it. You could try selling it there. There are also some Mac-centric sites that allow posting FS/WTB posts, you could try there. Since you're the seller, its much safer for you to do this type transaction as opposed to being the buyer.

And yes, you can search up to 30-days worth of eBay completed auction history. When you go to ebay.com up in the top right-hand corner is a search box with an Advanced Search link. Click that link and you'll have more options on your search, including a checkbox for searching completed auctions only.

why the heck would you sell it if you love it? that's like selling one of your children, which i know some people here would probably do to get a cube. can't you scrape up five bills, sell something else or finance??? get a part-time job for a few weeks...

this could be you down the road:

DON'T SELL IT. unless you need the money or the space(?), just pack it up and put it away or something. prices have been ridiculously inflated for years; i know because i tried to acquire one but refuse to pay those prices (i eventually settled on a clamshell ibook that i got a killer deal on). again, there are people right here in this forum that would give their right arm for a cube. i seriously thought about selling my white iBook to raise some cash but i love all my 'books and i regret even *thinking* about selling one of them. i carry my ibook every day and it would have been stupid to part with it.

Well for the Cube (minus the keyboard and mouse) it appears that I could only expect to get around $300-375 on eBay. There's no way I can let it go for that. That's just a little better than half of what I would need to purchase the Mac Mini (with at LEAST 512 MB of Ram). Thanks for all the responses

At the very least I will probably add some more much needed ram to the Cube. I've heard that Crucial comes pretty highly recommended in terms of price/quality. I've also heard Kingston praised, but their prices are too high. Any other recommendations?

Any PC2700 stick from newegg.com's mac section should work. Or even the PC section for that matter. I bought a 1gb stick of PC2100 SO-DIMM for my iBook for $173 and it works flawlessly. I kinda wish I woulda got the PC2700 stick though since my iBook will be leaving me this august and I could've used it in a new PowerBook. Oh well.

The prices for the Cube on eBay are still well over $400.

Go to www.cubeowner.com and check what they are going for over there. There are several decent upgrades for the Cube according to that site.

Ya the Cubes value really went down after the mini came out.

I assume the mini will have an effect on the eMac and iMac CRT predominately, and the Cube to some extent. The people who are in the market for the Cube at this point are Cube enthusiasts, not regular Mac buyers. The mini will have only a negligible effect on Power Mac resale value.

Well, it went down about $100 it seems. But considering they were going for over $500 before, it's still not too bad at $400+, considering the Mac mini costs $500.

The mini is a fine machine, but some of the few things that concern me about it is the laptop hard drive and the reported noise. My Cube 1.7 is dead silent, and it feels much faster than the G4 1.33 PowerBook (which is probably the closest thing to testing the Mac mini without actually testing the Mac mini). Luckily, the mini's noise reportedly isn't anywhere near as much as the iMac G5 on highest performance mode. I want to eventually replace my Cube 1.7 with an iMac 2.5 or something (2007?), but I'd be less likely to if it makes significant noise.

I'm not sure that I could get $400+ for my Cube in light of the fact that I will not be including the keyboard, mouse or monitor. The other factor is that the only thing I have upgraded on my Cube is the HD. The Cubes that were selling for 400-500+ on eBay contained more ram and many of the auctions included monitors.
