Sound output just went kaput. Left channel is nothing but static, and right side is not what it used to be. Speakers are fine, and headphones plugged into the port produce the same results.
Since the sound output is on the motherboard, are there any options to try and remedy this short of throwing in a PCI sound card?

Did you just upgrade to 10.3.6 or 10.3.7? I have seen some threads around here about MDD users having sound bugs with these updates, but not exactly as you describe them.

hmmmm- I'm running 10.3.7 but the problem started some time after the update. One night it was fine, then the next day dead.

thinking it might be related to the upgrade somehow, I tried zapping the PRAM, but no effect. Now sound is completely gone.
