Hi, one of the my main purposes of buying a Mac mini is to play those downloaded high-def DVDrips (such as .avi files). They can not play smoothly in my old iMac G3. Does mac mini do the job properly? Play in full screen?

Thanks in advance.
Cheers.

I'm guessing you meant to say DVD-rips you've made yourself, as downloading them would be illegal...
The DVD rips I've made myself sure play well on my G4 eMac, and that's lower speced than the Mac mini, so my guess is yes.

Depends what you mean by full-screen. The Mini only has 32mb of video memory, so if you want to play them on a screen with resolution higher than 1024x768 then it's going to get choppy. Just change your resolution and you'll be fine. Playing it through a normal TV (i.e. not HDTV) is perfect, I have my powerbook (similar spec to Mini) connected to my widescreen Sony and watch my collection of divx .avis that way, with great results. Just get yourself a copy of VLC from videolan.org.

Yep, installed VLC on a iMac DVSE (400MHz) over the weekend and it played The Incredibles (Oops!) perfectly.
