I have a Powermac G5 Dual 2GHZ and would like to use it with an Airport Express base station to play my iTunes library through my stereo. I am a bit confused, as it seems to me that I may need an Airport card for my Mac for this to work. In About This Mac, I see no reference to an Airport Card in this computer. The Apple site makes no mention of this from what I have been able to see through a search, but logic tells me that there is something missing. I have already ordered the Airport Express, and the Airport setup program is on my computer. Can anyone enlighten me in this dilemma? Any help would be appreciated.

Go to System Preferences. The click on Network. If you see Airport Express listed, then you have the card installed.

I did. It says no information, so I am assuming there is no card.

You do not have to have an Airport card in your G5 as long as it, and your Airport Express, are connected to your network. The Express can be physically connected via a cable and you'll be able to play songs thru it.

My setup at home is like this: Airport Express connected to Airport Extreme via WDS. Airport Extreme connected to Netgear switch. Netgear switch connected to Dlink switch. G5 connected to Dlink switch. The G5 is able to stream music to the Express, even though it is not connected wirelessly.

Is the Netgear switch a router? What model number is it? I take it the Airport Extreme is the Base Station. What is the Dlink switch and what's the model number? This seems to be the setup I'm looking for. Do you have DSL or Dialup connection to the internet? If DSL I take it you run it through the Airport Extreme Base Station. A little more information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for what you have offered so far.

No, it's just a 5 port switch that my Airport Extreme, iMac, and Dlink switch connect to. It is located in the middle of the house so that I get more even coverage. The Airport Extreme is my router.

Yes, it is connected to the cable modem, and to the Netgear switch

It's just another 5 port switch, nothing special. It is located in my computer room, and is connected to my G5, HTPC, SME server, and back to the Netgear switch via an ethernet cable run under the house. The only reason I have 2 separate switches is because I didn't want to run multiple cables from my computer room back to the base station. So instead of getting one 8 port switch, I got two 5 port switches.

This seems to be the setup I'm looking for. Do you have DSL or Dialup connection to the internet? If DSL I take it you run it through the Airport Extreme Base Station.
Actually, I have cable, but DSL would connect the same way. The Airport Express is configured as a WDS of the Airport Extreme, and is located behind my entertainment center in the living room. It is connected to some noname little tiny 5 port switch, and provides wireless network access to my Xbox and PS2, and streams music to my surround receiver.

A little more information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for what you have offered so far.
Glad to help. If you have any other questions, just ask!
