I am going to the two cities in April, and I want to buy a Sonnet upgrade card. Any suggestions where it is best to buy?

In NYC, try Tekserve. Otherwise, try and order the card you want to have it delivered overnight (no tax) to your hotel. This may be your best option. Order from PowerMax or Macconnection or maybe owc.com.
