A friend's elderly mother has an eMac that was purchased Dec '03, I think. A tad out of warranty now.

They took it to a local shop and was told it was the 'power video assembly'. As was relayed to me. Not sure if this is the correct term for the parts.
And were told it would cost about $800+ to replace it. More than a new machine.

I did a little searching and came up with a potentially better term for the problem, 'Display/Analog assembly'. If correct, this includes the CRT, analog/video board and the power supply.

But have not been able to find out whether this is something that we could purchase and install ourselves. Or if it is even worth it?

They certainly don't just want to junk it, as it is just a bit over a year old.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
TIA

Obviously a second opinion from a different repair shop would be a good start...

Sell it on eBay, and use the money to buy a new one. I've sold lots of broken electronics before and gotten good prices on them from people who think they can fix things for a profit.

We are going to try some other alternatives.
Thanks for your responses.
We appreciate it.

Of all the machines (Macs) we have purchased over the past ten years, and there have been several. This is the only one we have had problems with. Turns out to be a gift to a parent. Wish it would have been my own machine. Such is life. We will sort it out one way or the other.

Thanks again.
