Hey all,

Just installed a DVR-108 on a client's machine. As usual, it failed to work until Patchburn was installed.

What I fail to understand is why this great app (and it's developer) simply doesn't get purchased by Apple and updated and released with every OS Updates? How come every single new model of Pioneer DVR drive never seems to work out of the box without this patch?

It seems that Apple brands these things "Superdrive" long after they've been introduced to the PC world and only after said patch has been incorporated into the OS anyway.

I mean, if the DVR-109 will eventually be branded a "Superdrive" it would be great if the recent 10.3.8 update would include support for the mechanism.

Just ranting, but still.

yeah. its a hassle. I had to install the patch also, but it does seem to work, so thats nice.

One of the drawbacks of such low marketshare numbers, I guess.

How exactly does Patchburn work? I think my A06/106 is getting finicky, and I'd like to replace it with a 109. Is Patchburn pretty reliable and trouble free?

Isn't it because Apple tweaks the firmware on the Pioneers to quite them down (decrease spinning speed) and disable DVD+R?
