Since I have allot of data to backup, I thought after verifing in Toast, test the DVD's with my Combo Drive while burning the next DVD with my SuperDrive. Well this didn't work. I inserted the freshly burned DVD into my ComboDrive and it ejects it 10 seconds later without any message showing up in OS X. I tried a DVD I burned yesturday same thing, and same thing for the next 3 DVD's I've burned since this evening. I tried a DVD I burned last month and it reads it fine.

Please don't say it's dying. I'v only had the computer since Sept 26, 2003. SuperDrive reads discs just fine. The ComboDrive is a
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R1312
Revision: 1A06
Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped

Thanks

Update:
Well I tried DVD-R's burn a while back and they are working. It seems to be only DVD-R's burned with the second back fromt he Mitsumi 4x DVD-R's I got. But the SuperDrive is reading them just fine. Any idea's?

well.. my DP 1.25Ghz (FW800) came with a Philips CDD5301 combo drive. However, some CDs and audio CDs refused to mount. They did mount and playable on the first loading, but not anymore. Since I got an aftermarket Pioneer DVR-108 SuperDrive, I just ignored the problem on the combo drive.

I did call Apple and they asked me to bring the whole tower either to the Apple Store or send it back for a check. I have AppleCare.

@$400+$50 tax I couldn't afford it, and it was fine in the first year. Maybe it has to do with 10.3.8 that's the only thing that was changed. It is probably software related.

Scratch that theory. Booted into 10.2.8 (prepping HD to move to Beige G3) same thing. Maybe it's the stack of DVD-R's.

I'd guess it's the drive. Ejecting media right after insertion like that often signals bad hardware. Try booting off a different system or as a different user to make sure it's not software related. If the problem is still happening, I'd bet it's the drive.
