Since I upgraded to the latest OS my G5's fans have been getting very loud for a few moments and then settling back down. The computer is usually inaudible for all intents and purposes, buy now it seems to see fit to complain vehemently every few hours.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Many people. including myself, have had fan issues with 10.3.8. Try setting your processor setting to"highest". After I did that my fans returned to normal.....quiet.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Yes - every now and the the machine sounds like a jet, then the fans quiet down.

What does setting processor to "highest" mean?

The "highest" thing seems to be working, but another workaround I've found is blasting hip hop all the time an you won't hear it even if it does happen.

Nice work-around, but not a fix. I want a fix. Does a clean install fix it? Anyone tried?

I have not tried a clean install. Setting the processors to highest for me is a fix. Besides my computer runs faster, checked with xbench, and according to temp monitor my processors are actually running cooler than they were on automatic. Strange but it works for me.
