I seem to have corrupted the firmware of my recenty acquired iMac G3 350. I was going to install MacOSX (It was running 9.2.2). The installer claimed that the firmware had to be upgraded and only allowed me to quit. When I rebooted the machine the colors on the monitor were very weird: a purple or pink ghost was on the right of items and windows. I then reset the PRAM (which I understand now after browing this forum for a while is very bad) So now I´ve ended up with blank screen and there seems to be no solution to upgrade the firmware since I cannot see what I am doing.

(I can boot into open-firmware .... without seeing anything I can type reset-nvram [return]reset-all[return] still no luck.)

So now I have reset the cuda and removed the PRAM battery and I will give it a try in a few hours.

But my question is: Could it be of any use to put another drive in with working copy of Macos 9 (it may be heavily corrupted) or should I try to boot from an OS9 cd? OSX cd does nothing.

Where does the firmware reside... where is it in the hardware?
Or.... is there any other solution

well thanks anyway for reading this.

Hello everyone.
I just want to share with you how I fixed successfully my problem if someone is struggling with similar problems.

On the website: http://www.gileskennedy.com/panthereatsimac are found very intuitive and well written tutorials for common people to solve this firmware problem.

This has been a known issue since 10.2. You MUST have firmware 4.1.9 in a slot load iMac before even booting into the OS X installer CD.

ACSA 10.4/10.3, ACTC 10.3, ACHDS 10.3
