I have a iMac DV 400mhz slot loader with DVD drive

I am running Mac OS 10.1.5 and using Apple DVD player v3.1.1

I know it plays region 2 dvds

will I be able to play Region 1 dvds?

any ideas

I have no idea what the region limitations of the DVDs in DVD Player are. BUT .. you can always try VLC and/or rip the Region 1 DVD with something like MacTheRipper and remove/change the region encoding if necessary. Then, you can play the resulting VIDEO_TS folder through DVD Player or anything else you want.

The system will let you change the DVD drive's region 5 times -- after the fifth time, the last region is permanently set. This switching is only envisioned for, say, when a machine is sold to someone in a different region.

I second the VLC or MacTheRipper suggestions, since they don't require permanently changing your hardware.
