hi,

a local ebay seller has the following:

"G4 Mirror Door 2x1.42Ghz 1GB RAM 120GB HD GeForce 4Ti"

Full Spec

Top of the range mirror door PowerMac G4
Dual 1.42GHz CPU
1 GB RAM (2x512MB
120GB HD
Bluetooth built in
GeForce4 Ti 128MB Graphics card
2xUSB, 2xFirewire 400, 1xFirewire 800, MAC OSX 10.3
SuperDrive DVD writer
iLife 04
Microsoft Office X
Keyboard
Mouse

what do people think?

i am able to get a very good price on it (£700)

i have considered a mac mini / imac / single 1.8 g5 but feel they are probably slower and would need beefing up.

the dual 1.8 / dual 2.0 are now a little out of my price range and would cost nearly double the dual g4 to get a similar spec in the UK (stock 1.8 is £1150 + upgrades and dual 2.0 is £1460)

i am going to use the mac for photoshop / macromedia studio mainly. a little dable here and there into video and sound editing and creation. as well as a host of other multimedia editing and creating.

can i have some feedback for past and present users on this powermac?

can this mac last another 3 years or so?

any help to aid possible purchase is appreciated.

thanks in advance,

< can any one help ???>

how good is this machine

i could save a fair bit and then go full blown later in year or even next year if this machine satisfies my needs

other options were

mac mini with 1 gb ram / imac g5 1.8 / single 1.8 g5

i could have considered the dual 1.8 but i rather get an updated machine later on.

this g4 dual seems to offer me a package that i can use instantly for my needs.

just wanted advice from others

thanks

For God's sake, mak, buy something already!... You have talked yourself (and these forums) thru every option possible, and your indecision already cost you on the refurb dual 1.8 G5. The dual G4 you're talking about would be TONS better than the mini and measurably better than the single 1.8 machine. I think it's a good deal, as the dual 1.42 photo capture workstation we have at work is second only to the dual 1.8. This G4 you're talking about right now, is it cheaper than the dual 1.8 refurb you missed out on? If it is, get it.

hi MichiganRich,

i know, i know,

i have been going around in circles lol

"dual 1.42 photo capture workstation we have at work is second only to the dual 1.8" - sounds good - anything more you can say about this?

"This G4 you're talking about right now, is it cheaper than the dual 1.8 refurb you missed out on?" yes that dual 1.8 was £1025 and this dual can be had for £700 (£ -> $ x 1.87 something)

i am just hoping this machine don't sound like a jet engine....i prob hide it under desk........my pc thats under desk is so loud....

the dual 1.42 - how does it compare to a p4 3.2 etc or an amd 3400+ ?

i aint even a professional yet and i worried on what to get lol.....just want a good stable quiet fast setup that won't break the bank...

thanks,

Make a decision dammit, or at least keep your insanity contained to one thread.

Frankly, you're an idiot if you don't buy that thing for that price.
