I'm having trouble burning CD-R on my iMac 20inch. I've burned them before. I can burn a DVD-R, but it wouldn't burn a CD-R.

I tried 4 different CD-R discs (all from the same batch).

Maybe I just bought CD-R stock that my iMac doesn't like.

Are there particular brands to use?

I figure if I can burn a DVD, that my superdrive isn't broken. Maybe I'm wrong.

Any tips?

In years past CD burners were very sensitive to the brand of CDR, less so in recent years, at least in my experience.

If you ask for recommended brands of CDR you will wind up with a list of all the major brands...........

FWIW, over 6 or 7 years burning CD's the brand I've found to be consistently the best is Verbatim, but they can be hard to find retail.

I've found Office Depot's house brand to be consistently good and very cheap if you catch them on sale. DVD-R media as well, they just had a spectacular sale.

But if you want to try new media you will want to try a brand that your local store has in small quantity packs - you don't want to buy a 50 pc spindle just to try out. If you can find small packs you might as well get several different brands, or borrow a few from a friend.

(edit) - Oh, and get a can of that compressed air stuff and give the drive a good blow-out.

Superdrives can have problems with CDs and work fine with DVDs, reading or burning.

Try different media (different brand, etc.) and if it doesn't seem to work, replace it.

I tested a different CD-R and it worked great. I guess I won't use that other brand from now on. Thanks for the info.
