I have a 333MHz bondi blue imac with 10.3.7 but when I hit sleep, everything turns off but the fan. Even after hours it keeps on whirring. Yet my brother's 350MHz imac works fine. I'm not sure if it needs a firmware upgrade as this imac does indeed have one. The firmware upgrade doesn't say it fixes that though.

I just hate turning the machine on and off all the time and it can't be good for the machine.

If it's a 333Mhz machine...then you probably have a Blueberry, not Bondi.

and yes, All first generation iMac's. (233, 266 and 333MHz) have fan's that run non-stop, even in sleep they run.

Your brother has a second generation iMac (350-700Mhz). These are the slot-loaders and have no fan at all. They are convection cooled by air rising up through the machine.

Thanks gumby5647. I thought I maybe just needed a firmware update but if it's a different setup, I guess I'm stuck with it. I had no idea the 2nd generation imac was convection cooled. Maybe time to get a Mac Mini.
