I picked up the smaller of the two they had at Target, it's a Rubbermaid, says 1 1/2" (38,1 cm) on it. Can't say that it went as effortlessly as it looks in the video, but it did the job. I had to use the edge of the knife and work my way in, and if I was not careful the case would relatch itself when I'd go to do the other side.

That's the same one I got (at SuperTarget, too) has a blue handle. Haven't tried it yet, just got one to be ready for when I decide to upgrade.

Good to know it gets the job done.

The one that Apple includes in their service manuals is 1 1/2" wide. They also say that you should/must sand down one side of the putty knife to a beveled edge so that it will slip in easily without damaging the aluminum or plastic. Do not make a knife out of it. I've read of others having luck with putty knives up to 4", as well as using butter knives, but the beveled putty knife worked perfect for me.

I remember when the mini first came out someone that posted a "how-to" open the mini on a web site and recommended this tool:

http://www.stanleytools.com/default....d+Tile+Scraper

They said it is the perfect width and if I remember correctly they said the blade is thinner than a putty knife and more flexable.
