I currently have a choice of getting a second hand rev A. G5 2.0DP or a new 1.8DP. I was told to go for the 1.8 as the new ones are as fast as the rev A. 2.0.

So which should I get or should I bite the bullet and get a new 2.0DP. (2.5 is not an option).

Any and all opinions welcome and needed.

whoever says the new 1.8s are as fast as the old 2.0s is really an idiot.

the dual 2.0Ghz system will be better, and will have more RAM slots as well.

just depends if you're comfortable buying used or not. I've bought a few used Macs and in fact, my current laptop and desktop were used. it's all up to you. if it was me, I'd go for the dual 2.0Ghz system.

I agree with Mort on everything.

But let me add... Just my personal opinion, FWIW, I would not want to buy a G5 PowerMac without some type of warranty. In my experience, expensive parts fail on the G5s more often than the G4s. If the 2.0 either has Applecare (which can be transferred to a new owner) or is still under warranty and eligible to add Applecare, then great, go for it.

Otherwise, I would would pass on a non-warranty-covered G5.
