I was wondering is it is possible to install an airport card into a 20 inch G5 iMac yourself, and if it is, how hard is it? If you do it yourself, will it void the warranty?

Yes you can put teh card in yourself, it is very easy to do, and it should not void your warranty unless you actually do something you are not supposed to do. This would be along the lines of using He-Man force to seat the card and busting the holder itself.

You should have instructions on how to do it in the manual but there are also instructions on Apple's website in the support section.

Basically, you lay the computer flat with the display facing down (turned off, of course). there are three small philips screws on the bottom. These are capture screws so you just lossen them 5 or 6 turns, they will not fall out. Carefully lift up the back to about a 45 degree angle and the top can now be pulled out of the tabs that hold the top in place. The airport card slot is on the left (black slot) with the antenna held in right on it. There should be either a clear or white plastic tab on teh antenna end that you carefully pull up on to release. Take the new card and plu the antenna in to it. Insert the card face up from the bottom (of course orient it so the connector faces toward the receptacle in the slot). push up into into the slot until the card clicks into place. It doesn't take too much pressure but it does take a small amount. Once done reverse the steps to take teh back off, stand back up, and power it up. You should see the airport status bars in the top of the screen and now you just need to setup the computer with your network.

It took me longer to write this than it actually does to put the card in. Just remember to take your time and you'll be fine. Don't touch anything else in the computer and I would recommend touching an exposed metal surfance inside to dissapte any static electricity you have in your body.
