hardware problems go in the hardware forums, not the Mac OS forum.

Macs will eject the optical media during bootup if the mouse button is held down. You might check the door cover to see if it's pressing on the drive's real eject button.

What is an "opfr" anyway?

Really hurried typing.... it's some kind of bug with this forum that i can go back and edit that and it will show edited if you go back in to edit it again, but it will not change the actual title.

Perhaps the mobo reset button will work?

I had exactly the same problem with a G5 at work.

Turned out to be the USB receiver of a Hewlett Packard cordless mouse that was causing the problem. Pulled out the reciever and it never happened again.

Might be worth unplugging any USB devices and rebooting just to see if that cures the problem.

Yeah, here's what's happening: vB stores two kinds of titles -- a thread title, and post titles. The thread title is obviously what is shown in the menu bar and the beginning of a thread. The post titles we do not display -- they've been edited out of our display templates.

When you create a thread, the title you enter is sent to both the thread title (stored in one place) and to the title of the first post (stored somewhere else). If you press Edit on your post, though, the title you see and modify is the post title, not the thread title. So, as you discovered, if you edit the post title, it makes no difference because they're never used here, basically.

There is no way for a normal user to edit a thread title, so if you need it done, ask a moderator of that forum, or an administrator.

I'm hoping that in the v3 update, we'll totally hide the post title fields, to not make it seem as though the thread titles can be edited.

I had the same problem on my G4 a couple of years ago. The culprit in my case was a Kensington mouse. The problem disappeared when using the standard Apple mouse or a Logitech mouse.

Somehow I don't think a PMU reset is going to fix the title of the thread... or even your typing issues.

Whatever it was it's fixed. It stopped doing it... Oh well rather random.
