I've got an older 17" CRT blue and white studio display hooked up to a monitor switch box so I can use it with both a pc and a sawtooth G4. Today though when I turned on the mac the screen doesn't come on and the power button on the monitor turns red. The mac's hard drive makes noises like its starting up fine but nothing comes on. When I turn on the pc though the screen works perfectly fine. I tried using another studio display and the same thing happens so I'm sure the problem is with the G4. Anyone have any ideas whats going on with it?? This is a 400mhz sawtooth running OS 9.2.2.

First I would open up the G4 and reseat the video card.
Then bypass your video switch, Go straight from the G4 to the monitor.
Try a different video cable. like the one connected to you PC.
If all these things still do not work it is probably your video card.
And last but not least upgrade to OSX.

reset the PRAM.

Then check the monitor to see if it works as different resolutions. It's possible the monitor is failing. I can't think of the name of the board on the Apple monitors off the top of my head... it's been a while. The bottom line is that it would cost a lot more to fix than it would to replace.
